XM Fees and Charges Explained — Spreads, Withdrawal and Inactivity Fees, and Your Real Cost After Cashback
Short answer: on XM's Micro, Standard and Ultra Low accounts there is no trading commission — the main cost of a trade is the spread, plus a swap if you hold a position overnight. XM's FAQ says it charges no deposit or withdrawal fees, and covers its own bank's fees on international bank wires of $200 or more. One fee that is easy to overlook is the dormant-account fee: after 90 days with no activity in all your accounts, XM Global charges USD 10 a month (nothing if the free balance is zero). On Gold, every 1 cent of spread costs $1 per lot, and on a Standard account the Gold spread is typically around $20 per lot. With official XM partner code CBT90, $9.00 per lot of that comes back as cashback, which brings the typical spread cost on Gold down to around $11 per lot.
What does XM charge a trader?
There are three kinds of cost on an XM trade. Only the first one applies to every trade. Fees on deposits, withdrawals and unused accounts are covered further down, in XM non-trading fees.
| Cost | Micro / Standard | Ultra Low | When you pay it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spread | Yes — typically around 1.0–1.6 pips on major pairs | Yes — narrower, from around 0.6 pip | Every trade, built into the buy/sell price |
| Trading commission | None | None | — |
| Swap | Yes | Yes | Only on positions held open overnight |
Spreads on XM are variable. They move with market conditions, so treat the ranges above as typical, not fixed. Your platform always shows the live spread before you trade. Some XM entities also offer a commission-based Zero account; it is not on the XM Global account list (Standard, Micro, Ultra Low Standard, Ultra Low Micro, Shares), and we don't quote its fees here.
"Commission" means two different things
This causes a lot of confusion, so it is worth separating:
- Trading commission is a fee a trader pays the broker per trade. On Micro, Standard and Ultra Low, XM charges none.
- Partner commission is what XM pays an official partner for clients who opened their account under that partner's code. You never pay it. CashBackXM returns a fixed share of it to you as cashback.
So Ultra Low does not have a "different commission" for the trader. What differs is the partner commission — which is why cashback on Ultra Low is lower than on Standard.
XM Gold spread: what it costs in dollars per lot
XM quotes Gold (XAUUSD) in dollars and cents per ounce, and 1 standard lot is 100 ounces. The conversion is simple: 1 cent of spread = $1.00 per lot, $0.10 per 0.1 lot and $0.01 per 0.01 lot.
| Gold spread shown in platform | Cost per 1.00 lot | Cost per 0.10 lot | Cost per 0.01 lot |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 cents ($0.10) | $10 | $1 | $0.10 |
| 20 cents ($0.20) | $20 | $2 | $0.20 |
| 30 cents ($0.30) | $30 | $3 | $0.30 |
These rows only show how the conversion works; they are not XM's quoted spreads. On a Standard account the Gold spread is typically around $20 per lot, and it changes during the day. Read the live spread in your platform, multiply the cents by the number of ounces, and you have your cost. More on lot sizes in XM lot size explained.
Forex spreads in dollars
On pairs quoted in US dollars, such as EURUSD, 1 pip is worth about $10 per lot. A typical Standard spread of 1.0–1.6 pips therefore costs about $10–$16 per lot. An Ultra Low spread from around 0.6 pip costs from about $6 per lot. On other pairs the pip value moves with the exchange rate, and cross pairs usually trade on wider spreads.
Your real cost after cashback
Cashback is a fixed amount per lot, credited to your XM MyWallet the day after each trade closes. It does not change your spread — it returns part of the cost afterwards. Expressed in spread terms:
| 1 lot of… (account) | Typical spread cost | Cashback (CBT90) | Cashback in spread terms | Cost after cashback |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| GOLD (Standard) | around $20 | $9.00 | 9 cents | around $11 |
| GOLD# (Ultra Low) | narrower — check platform | $3.70 | 3.7 cents | spread cost minus $3.70 |
| EURUSD (Standard) | about $10–$16 | $4.80 | 0.48 pip | about $5.20–$11.20 |
| EURUSD# (Ultra Low) | from about $6 | $1.80 | 0.18 pip | from about $4.20 |
Spread costs are typical and variable; the cashback amounts are fixed. Over a month, 20 lots of Gold on a Standard account means around $400 paid in spread and $180 credited back. This illustrates how the cost adds up with volume — it is not a forecast. Rates for every pair are in the rates table, and the Standard vs Ultra Low trade-off is worked through in Standard vs Ultra Low cashback.
Under XM's partner terms, some volume does not earn cashback: trades lasting 3 minutes or less, positions closed with "close by" or "multiple close by", and churning. If part of your margin comes from a bonus, cashback is reduced in proportion.
Swap and swap-free (Islamic) accounts
Swap is the overnight financing charge or credit on a position still open at the daily rollover. It depends on the instrument and on whether you are long or short, and you can see the current values in the contract specifications in your platform.
XM also offers a swap-free (Islamic) option. XM Global's Client Agreement (clauses 80.1–80.2) says it is available only to clients who cannot use swaps for religious reasons; XM may ask for proof and may refuse. If you request it, all your real trading accounts are converted to swap-free. On Ultra Low accounts, XM's Help Center says only selected instruments are swap-free.
XM non-trading fees: deposits, withdrawals and inactivity
XM's FAQ says it doesn't charge fees on deposits or withdrawals. Its Client Agreement, however, lets XM add fees, and it sets a monthly fee on dormant accounts. This table lists what each document says:
| Fee | What XM says | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Deposit and withdrawal fees | "We don't charge any fees on deposits or withdrawals." XM withdrawal fees → | XM Help Center FAQ |
| International bank wire | XM covers the fees charged by its own bank on wires of $200 or more (subject to change). Below $200, fees may be charged by the banks involved. | XM Help Center FAQ |
| Fees XM's terms allow | XM reserves the right to set withdrawal limits and fees, may ask you to pay bank transfer fees, and may add a transfer charge on methods that have processing costs. | Client Agreement 74.3, 74.9, 72.4 |
| Third-party deposit | USD 50 handling fee if XM confirms a deposit was not sent by you. | Client Agreement 72.5 |
| Currency conversion | XM converts at a rate it selects and may add a mark-up. No figure is published; the rate is shown before you confirm in WebTrader or the XM App. | Client Agreement 72.6 · FAQ |
| Minimum deposit / withdrawal | USD 5 for any account type; the real minimum depends on the payment method. | XM Help Center FAQ |
| Withdrawal time | In principle processed within one business day; bank wire and cards usually take 2–5 business days to arrive. | Client Agreement 74.7 · FAQ |
| Dormant (inactivity) fee | No activity (trading, withdrawals, deposits, internal transfers; XM's Help Center also counts opening additional accounts and registration) in all your accounts for 90 calendar days → USD 10 per month, or the whole free balance if it is under USD 10. No charge if the free balance is zero. XM inactivity fee → | Client Agreement 79.1, 79.3 |
A dormant account has other effects too. Remaining bonuses and promotion credits are removed, and an account with a free balance under USD 5 is archived right after the 90 days (clauses 79.2, 79.4). Separately, if a positive balance sits untouched for 5 years and XM cannot reach you, XM may stop treating it as client money (78.8).
How to read this: XM says it doesn't charge deposit or withdrawal fees, but its terms allow fees, so check the amount shown for your method before you confirm. Cashback does not cover a dormant fee — it comes only from trades, so a quiet account earns none. Cashback from official XM partner code CBT90 lands in your MyWallet and is withdrawn like any other XM balance, under the same rules; see XM cashback in MyWallet and our guide to XM deposits and withdrawals.

XM fees and charges — questions traders ask
Does XM charge commission per trade?
Not on Micro, Standard or Ultra Low accounts. The cost of a trade is built into the spread, plus swap if you hold overnight. A commission-based Zero account exists only at some XM entities and is not on the XM Global account list.
What are XM's brokerage charges for Gold?
On Micro, Standard and Ultra Low there is no commission on Gold — you pay the spread. 1 lot of XAUUSD is 100 ounces, so 1 cent of spread costs $1 per lot. On a Standard account the Gold spread is typically around $20 per lot and varies with the market.
How do I convert XM's Gold spread into dollars?
Multiply the spread in cents by your lot size × 100 ounces. A 20-cent spread costs $20 on 1 lot, $2 on 0.1 lot and $0.20 on 0.01 lot. Your platform shows the live spread before you trade.
How much of the spread does cashback return?
With partner code CBT90, Gold on a Standard account returns $9.00 per lot, the same as 9 cents of spread. EURUSD returns $4.80 per lot, about 0.48 pip. On Ultra Low the cashback is lower ($3.70 on GOLD#, $1.80 on EURUSD#) because the spread is narrower.
Does using a partner code make XM's spreads wider?
No. Your spreads, swaps and trading conditions are the same as for any XM client on the same account type. Cashback is paid from the partner commission XM pays its partner, not from your account.
Does XM charge deposit, withdrawal or inactivity fees?
XM's FAQ says it charges no deposit or withdrawal fees and covers its own bank's fees on international wires of $200 or more; its Client Agreement still allows fees, so check the amount shown before you confirm. Dormant accounts pay USD 10 a month after 90 days with no activity.
How does XM's inactivity fee work?
If none of your XM accounts has a trade, deposit, withdrawal or internal transfer for 90 calendar days, XM Global treats them as dormant and charges USD 10 a month, or the whole free balance if it is under USD 10. There is no charge if the free balance is zero.
