XM Inactivity Fee — When an XM Account Turns Dormant and What It Costs
Short answer: XM Global charges a dormant (inactivity) fee of $10 per month once there has been no activity — no trading, deposits, withdrawals or internal transfers — in all your XM accounts for at least 90 calendar days (Client Agreement, clauses 79.1 and 79.3). If the free balance is under $10, XM takes the whole free balance instead. If the free balance is zero, there is no charge.
When does an XM account become dormant?
XM's own word is "dormant". Clause 79.1 of XM Global's Client Agreement treats your accounts as dormant when there is "no activity (trading/withdrawals/deposits/internal transfer) in all of your Accounts" for at least 90 calendar days.
- What counts as activity: the Client Agreement lists trading, withdrawals, deposits and internal transfers. XM's Help Center adds opening additional accounts and registration activity.
- All your accounts together. The wording is "in all of your Accounts", so the clause looks at your accounts as a group, not one by one.
- Calendar days, not business days. Weekends and holidays count.
How much is the XM dormant fee?
Clause 79.3 sets a monthly dormant fee of USD 10, or the full free balance if that balance is less than $10. There is no charge if the free balance is zero. XM's Help Center says the same. Here is how that works on three balances:
| Free balance when the account turns dormant | What XM's terms say happens | Why |
|---|---|---|
| $0 | No fee | "No charge if the free balance in the Account is zero" (79.3) |
| $6 | $6 is taken — the whole free balance | The balance is under $10, so the fee is the full free balance (79.3) |
| $250 | $10 per month while the account stays dormant | Monthly dormant fee of $10 (79.3) |
Simple arithmetic, not a forecast: if that $250 account stays dormant for 12 months, the fees add up to $120 ($10 × 12). The money doesn't disappear at once, but it does shrink every month you leave it.
What else happens to a dormant XM account
- Bonuses go. All remaining bonuses and promotion credits are removed automatically (clause 79.2).
- Small balances are archived. An account with a free balance under $5 is archived right after the 90 days (clause 79.4).
- The 5-year rule. A separate clause (78.8) covers accounts left with a positive balance, no transactions and no contact for five years: XM may stop treating those funds as client money. This is a long-term rule, not part of the 90-day fee.
How to avoid the XM inactivity fee
Under clause 79.1, activity in any of your accounts within 90 days means they are not treated as dormant. So you have simple options:
- Make one deposit, withdrawal, internal transfer or trade within 90 days. You don't need to open a trade just to avoid a $10 fee — a deposit, withdrawal or internal transfer counts too.
- Set a reminder well before day 90 if you plan to take a break.
- If you're done with XM, withdraw your balance. A zero free balance carries no fee. See XM withdrawal fees for what the withdrawal itself can cost.
Cashback and a quiet account
Cashback from official XM partner code CBT90 comes only from closed trades — for example $9.00 per lot of Gold on a Standard account, credited by XM to your MyWallet the next day. No trades means no cashback, so cashback cannot cover a dormant fee. If you stop trading, decide what to do with any balance left in your trading accounts and MyWallet. How cashback is held and moved is in XM cashback in MyWallet.

XM inactivity fee — questions traders ask
Does XM charge an inactivity fee?
Yes. XM Global's Client Agreement (clause 79.3) sets a monthly dormant fee of $10 once your accounts have been inactive for at least 90 calendar days. If the free balance is under $10, the whole free balance is taken instead.
After how many days does XM charge an inactivity fee?
After at least 90 calendar days with no trading, deposits, withdrawals or internal transfers in all of your XM accounts (clause 79.1). XM then treats the accounts as dormant.
How much is the XM inactivity fee?
$10 per month on XM Global, or the full free balance if it is less than $10. For example, a $6 free balance would be taken in full, and a $250 balance would be charged $10 a month while it stays dormant.
Does XM charge a dormant fee on a zero balance?
No. XM's terms say there is no charge if the free balance in the account is zero. Accounts with a free balance under $5 are archived right after the 90 days.
How do I avoid the XM inactivity fee?
Under clause 79.1, a deposit, withdrawal, internal transfer or trade in any of your accounts within 90 days means they are not treated as dormant. If you no longer use XM, withdraw your balance — a zero free balance carries no fee. Ask XM support how a dormant account is reactivated.
Will XM close my dormant account?
XM's terms say accounts with a free balance under $5 are archived right after 90 days of dormancy. Ask XM support what that means for your account.
