XM EA Cashback — Are Expert Advisors Allowed, and Do EA Trades Earn a Rebate?

Short answer: yes. You can run Expert Advisors (EAs) on XM's MT4 and MT5 platforms, and XM's partner terms state that a scalping strategy with Expert Advisers is allowed, provided it is not considered churning. So EA trades earn the same cashback per closed lot as manual trades — $4.80 per lot of EURUSD and $9.00 per lot of Gold on a Standard account under official XM partner code CBT90. The same exclusions apply: trades of 3 minutes or less, positions closed with close by, and churning do not count.

Does XM allow Expert Advisors (EAs)?

Yes. An Expert Advisor is a program that runs inside MetaTrader and opens, manages and closes trades for you. EAs are a built-in feature of MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5, and XM offers both platforms. We found no general ban on EAs in XM's Client Agreement. What the agreement does prohibit is abusive trading: latency exploitation, "sniping", toxic scalping and arbitrage. If your EA is built to exploit price delays, it breaks XM's rules whether or not you earn cashback.

XM can change its terms at any time. Before you run a new EA on a real account, read XM's current client terms and ask XM support if your strategy is unusual.

Do EA trades earn cashback?

Yes. Cashback is paid per closed lot. It does not matter whether you clicked the button or your EA did. XM's partner terms say directly: "using a scalping strategy with Expert advisers is allowed, provided it is not considered 'churning'." CashBackXM is an official XM partner, and accounts opened with code CBT90 get the same rates for EA and manual volume:

Symbol (account)Cashback per 1.00 lotPer 0.01 lot
GOLD / XAUUSD (Standard)$9.00$0.09
EURUSD (Standard)$4.80$0.048
GOLD# (Ultra Low)$3.70$0.037
EURUSD# (Ultra Low)$1.80$0.018

Cashback starts at 0.01 lot, has no cap, and is credited to your XM MyWallet the next day. You do not need to claim it. Your spreads and trading conditions do not change. Rates for every pair are in the rates table.

Which EA trades do not earn cashback?

An EA can place hundreds of trades a month, so the exclusions matter more than for a manual trader. Under XM's partner terms, these trades are not counted:

EA behaviourEarns cashback?Why
Trade open for more than 3 minutesYesCounted per closed lot
Trade open for 3 minutes or lessNoExcluded under XM's partner terms
Position closed with close by or multiple close byNoExcluded under XM's partner terms
Margin funded by an XM bonusReducedCashback is reduced in proportion to the bonus share of margin
Churning (trading mainly to create volume)NoExcluded under XM's partner terms

Scalping rules in detail are on XM scalping cashback. How a bonus affects your cashback is explained in XM bonus vs cashback.

Worked example: one EA, one month

An EA trades EURUSD at 0.1 lot and closes 200 trades in a month. That is 20 lots. On a Standard account under CBT90, 20 lots × $4.80 = $96.00. Now suppose 60 of those trades closed within 3 minutes. They add up to 6 lots, which do not count. The cashback is 14 lots × $4.80 = $67.20.

Counted lotsEURUSD (Standard)Gold (Standard)EURUSD# (Ultra Low)GOLD# (Ultra Low)
20 lots (all trades over 3 min)$96.00$180.00$36.00$74.00
14 lots (6 lots closed within 3 min)$67.20$126.00$25.20$51.80

This example shows how volume and hold time add up. It is not a forecast of what your EA will trade or return. Try your own numbers in the cashback calculator.

How to check your EA before you run it

Cashback does not fix a losing EA

Cashback returns part of your trading cost on each lot. It does not change how the EA trades. If an EA loses more per lot than the cashback per lot, it still loses money. A high-volume EA also multiplies spread costs and risk. Test any EA on a demo account first, and judge it on its results before cashback.

How to get cashback on EA trades

  1. Open an XM account with official XM partner code CBT90. Step-by-step guide →
  2. Choose Standard for the higher per-lot rate, or Ultra Low for tighter spreads — compared in Standard vs Ultra Low cashback. Not sure which platform? See XM MT4 vs MT5.
  3. Attach your EA in MT4 or MT5 and trade from 0.01 lot. Cashback for each counted lot is credited to your MyWallet the next day.

Already trade with XM under a different code? Moving an existing account to CBT90 is not possible in almost every case — ask XM support. Details: changing your XM partner code.

CashBackXM is an independent cashback service and an official XM partner (code CBT90). We are not XM and never hold your funds; XM credits the cashback directly to your own MyWallet. Trading CFDs on leverage carries a high risk of loss, and automated trading does not reduce that risk. Cashback lowers your cost per lot but does not change the risk of any trade.

Same cashback for EA and manual trades.

XM EA cashback — questions traders ask

Does XM allow Expert Advisors?

Yes. EAs run on XM's MT4 and MT5 platforms. XM's Client Agreement prohibits abusive strategies such as latency exploitation, sniping, toxic scalping and arbitrage, so check that your EA does not rely on them.

Do EA trades earn cashback on XM?

Yes. Cashback is paid per closed lot, whether a person or an EA placed the trade. With official XM partner code CBT90 on a Standard account, that is $4.80 per lot of EURUSD and $9.00 per lot of Gold.

Which EA trades do not earn cashback?

Under XM's partner terms: trades open for 3 minutes or less, positions closed with close by or multiple close by, and churning. If margin is funded by an XM bonus, cashback is reduced in proportion.

Is EA scalping allowed for cashback?

Yes. XM's partner terms state that a scalping strategy with Expert Advisers is allowed, provided it is not considered churning. Trades must still stay open for more than 3 minutes to count.

Do I need a VPS to get cashback on EA trades?

No. A VPS only keeps your EA running when your computer is off. Cashback depends on the closed lots on your account, not on where the EA runs.

Can cashback make a losing EA profitable?

No. Cashback lowers your cost per lot, but it does not change how the EA trades. Test an EA on demo and judge it on results before cashback.
